Scope and Contents

From the Series:

From the time the idea of the Illinois Prairie Path was born, the volunteers have published and distributed newsletters. Beginning in 1963, the newsletters have been used as an incentive to recruit members to the volunteer organization. The newsletters were intended to update members about events and meetings, as well as keeping them informed on trail conditions and extensions. This series consists entirely of photographs considered for publication in the newsletters. The photographs arrived in envelopes labeled with the newsletter issue in which they were used. The envelopes also indicated that only some of the photographs were actually included in the newsletter, as often many more photos of an event were taken than could be used. Many of the photographs are labeled with specific details of the event and names of the individuals. Photographs in the files include: Governor's Bike Ride, Earth Day Clean-ups, Brownie and Cub Scout Troops Clean-ups, Construction of extensions, volunteer built bridge, parks and playgrounds. It also appears that many of the photographs were reprints from original slides taken by Jean Mooring, although no cross reference to the specific slides is available.
