Biographical / Historical

The national SIFE organization was founded in 1975. NCC’s chapter of SIFE was established in 1987. SIFE was a non-profit organization originally sponsored by the Naperville Chamber of Commerce and Clairol. This student organization created educational programs to promote a better understanding of economic issues and develop a greater appreciation for the free enterprise system. Gary Ernst, Associate Professor of Business Administration, served as faculty advisor beginning in 1987. At its inception, SIFE included President Stephen Jacobs, Treasurer Tim Herlehy, Secretary Scott Homa, and members Joney Bartucci, Cathy Rauscher, Kendra Herald, Maggie Grissom, Joe Wieczorek, Paul Fox, Tricia Stepan, Mike Potrawski, and Mike Van Poucke. The team won the “Rookie of the Year” regional award in 1988. SIFE later went to the national competition every year from 1988 to 1998, and consistently placed in the top 20 teams at regional and national competitions until 2012. The national organization changed the name from SIFE to Enactus in 2012. Professor of Anthropology Matthew Krystal became involved with NCC’s Enactus soon after.
