NCC: Oral History Program interviews
Scope and Contents
The 1990-1996 oral history interviews include a transcript of topics discussed in the interview along with a tape counter or time number, and 90-minute audiotapes of the interviews. The interviews in 1992-1993 highlight the individual's experiences both at NCC and in Naperville as a faculty member or student. In 1996, Jane Teague completed three interviews with the Naperville Public Library - Nichols library staff, and although the reason is unclear, topically these are quite relevant individuals in the original scope of the oral history project as both individuals were long-time residents of Naperville, but also had some connection with North Central College.
Oral history interviews completed between 2004-2009 were recorded on CDs or Mini-DVs. Some of these interviews have a complete transcript. Others have a subject list or a time-stamped index. Some interviews are just the recording. These interviews are centered around North Central College experiences.
The oral history interviews from the North Central College African American Alumni Oral History Project, conducted between 2016-2018, are available in digital format without transcripts.
Further information about the individuals interviewed can be found in the box list.

Biographical / Historical
In 1991, a group of North Central College faculty representing the history and religion departments and the library (Ann Keating, Barbara Sciacchitano, Howard Mueller, Pierre Lebeau, Carolyn Sheehy, Jerry Berberet, and Jeff Charles) discussed creating a North Central College local history project. They decided to move forward with an oral history program focusing on the experience at North Central College and in Naperville. The oral history program of North Central College completed 13 interviews between 1990 and 1996 with the help of Alumni Relations who identified candidates for interviews. Howard Mueller, Pierre Lebeau, Ann Keating, Jeff Charles, and Jane Teague conducted the interviews between 1990 and 1996. There are no records concerning why this program was discontinued after 1996.
In 2004, the College Archivist began the oral history program again with interviews of selected retiring faculty. This expanded to include interviews with selected College staff-administrators, alumni, and trustees with students and NCTV Naperville Executive Director Elizabeth Braham Spencer also conducting interviews. Many of these interviews were conducted in conjunction with North Central’s Sesquicentennial celebration.
The College Archivist and North Central College students interviewed North Central African American alumni as part of the North Central College African American Alumni Oral History Project from 2016-2018.
Additional oral history interviews conducted by students, faculty, and the College Archivist are added as completed.
