Biographical / Historical

The Academic Advising Center was created on October 8, 1970. Concerns that a disconnect had developed between faculty advisors and students led to the decision to start an Advising Center. Issues included but were not limited to shallowness of contact between student and advisor, misinformation on the part of advisors, overloading of advisors, and the indifference of advisors to special interests of students. The role of the Advising Center was to focus on the goals and requirements set by the Registrar at North Central College, leaving the student and faculty advisor meetings to focus on the individual goals of the student. The Academic Advising Center was closed in the Fall of 2009. Currently, the Center for Student Success does academic advising for students, along with providing other services.
