Scope and Contents
Congressman Fawell's District Office in Clarendon Hills clipped stories related to him from local newspapers, including, but are not limited to: Chicago Tribune, Downers Grove Reporter, Naperville Sun, Suburban Life, Lisle Sun, Palos Citizen, Hinsdale Doings, and Darien Met. The newspapers printed stories about a myriad of topics, including: Congressman Fawell's vote, academy nominations, district visits, and his letters to the editor. The Republican Party also purchased space in these newspapers and included Congressman Fawell in the advertisements. The press clipping files include photocopies of newspaper articles about or mentioning Congressman Fawell, which were compiled by the district office and have, for the most part, identified sources. The early files, 1958-1981, relate to Congressman Fawell's service as an Illinois State senator and as a private citizen, and therefore, were not created by the district office, but were maintained and transferred by them. The 1984 file contains materials exclusively related to Congressman Fawell's first election as an U.S. Congressman. The district office maintained these files in chronological order and photocopied all of the clippings onto acid-free paper prior to the transfer to NCC.
