June 1995
Scope and Contents
Congressman Fawell conducted a series of town meetings, 1985-1997, which were designed as an open forum or discussion between the congressman and his constituents about issues in Congress of concern to them. The meetings were often scheduled over a weekend, with one meeting in the morning and one in the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday. Locations of the meetings included: Aurora, Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Lemont, Lisle, Lockport, Naperville, Orland Park, Palos Park, Plainfield, Romeoville, Willowbrook, Woodridge. The D.C. office legislative staff prepared briefing books as a quick reference and review for Congressman Fawell prior to a meeting. The collection includes the briefing books from 1991-1997. The books contained photocopies of news clippings and position papers, memos between legislative staff and Congressman Fawell, letters, and newsletters from organizations and corporations, arranged alphabetically by topic. The invitations included in these files are mailings to "Postal Customers of the 13th District" announcing times and locations of town meetings. This series was received in three-ring binders, which were removed during processing.
