103rd Congress-Briefing Book-Draft-Staff, 1992
Scope and Contents
Congressman Fawell served on the Education and Labor Committee for the entirety of his years as a member of Congress. (The committee was officially titled the Committee on Education and Labor from 1985-1994, named the Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities from 1995-1996 and then the Committee on Education and the Workforce from 1997-1998, but for ease of use was referred to as the Education and Labor Committee.) The Education and Labor Committee investigates matters relating to and has jurisdiction over legislation pertaining to education and labor issues. The Education and Labor Committee Files consist entirely of summaries and briefing books distributed to committee members by the committee staff. The briefing books discuss issues that were likely to be addressed by the Education and Labor Committee, produced either at the beginning of a Congress or at the beginning of a year. The summaries are reviews produced at the end of the year, outlining legislative and hearing accomplishments for either an entire Congress or a single year. The subjects of the Education and Labor Committee Files cover the gamut of both education and labor subjects and thus, were not separated into the two subseries of this committee, Labor Files, 1985-1998 and Education Files, 1985-1998.
