Statistical Summary of Votes (1 of 2), 1989

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Clerk of the House of Representatives compiled congressional voting records in three different documents and distributed the reports to each Representative on a quarterly basis. The details of the differences between Legislative Activity Guide, Legislative Profile, and Statistical Summary of Votes are provided below. Congressman Fawell's Washington D. C. office maintained all the voting record files, usually within the central office files, but occasionally, these files were found within a Legislative Assistant's files and were removed and added to this series. Each Legislative Activity Guide contains one sheet detailing Congressman Fawell's voting record, i.e. his total number of "Yeas," "Nays," and "Not Voting" for the year, and a summary of each bill presented to the House during the given year (organized chronologically, with Congressman Fawell's vote on the bill at the end of each summary). The files cover the years 1985-1998, with the exception of the years 1992-1994, which are missing. The Legislative Profiles are divided into two sections. The first section details the bills sponsored by Congressman Fawell, and is organized by bill number, including a brief description of each bill, and a chronological list, with specific dates, of when the cosponsors lent their support to the bill. The second, and much larger, section lists the bills, organized by bill number, that were cosponsored by Congressman Fawell during the year represented. (Members of Congress usually co-sponsor many more bills than they sponsor, and the contents of these files reflect this pattern.) The files cover the years 1989-1998. Each Statistical Summary of Votes contains several sections, including an index of bills by subject and sponsor, an index of bills by bill number, and lists of attendance records for the House with Representatives organized by state. For each bill, lists of which Representatives voted "Yea," "Nay," and "Not Voting" are included. Some Statistical Summary of Votes were found at the end of the Legislative Activity Guide, but, were removed and placed with similar files. These files cover the years 1985-1998 with the exception of the years 1992-1994, which are missing.
