Biographical / Historical

Although undated, the edition of the Lyre in the archive collection was likely from the 1980s. According to an online student directory, this was when the members of the Lyre’s editorial staff were in attendance at the college. The editorial staff included students Gregory Stone, Karen Hannum, James Hendricks, Vicky Muehleisen, Iain S. Walsh, and Kristine Ward. As such, the Lyre would have been published when Shimer’s campus was located in Waukegan, Illinois. Comprised of submissions from both students and faculty, the work published in the Lyre varies greatly in content and tone, with some pieces being more humorous and others being more somber.
