Highways - Route 59/FAP 77, 1981-1984
Scope and Contents
The Illinois Prairie Path was directly affected by expansions and changes to local highways. The largest of these was the construction of I-355 (Federal Aid Project 431). Working with many local conservation groups, the IPP supported campaigns protesting the project and then mitigating the impact on local environmental areas. Other projects include concerns regarding path user safety with the expansion of Butterfield Road (Route 56) and Route 59 and Eola Road. One project that did not progress was a proposed Fox Valley Freeway. Several files pertain to Federal Aid Project 61, an expansion of Route 53. It is unclear from the files if this project proceeded. The files contain correspondence with city, county, state, and federal agencies, original proposals and hearing notifications, statements prepared for the hearings, petitions, action packets and promotional pieces, and notes.
