Bridges - East Branch of the DuPage River (between Glen Ellyn and Lombard), 1967-1969
Scope and Contents
Included in this series are materials on construction of bridges over Filey Road, I-290/I-294/Electric Avenue, and Route 59 affording path users a more direct way to cross these busy roads. The files include correspondence, news clippings, statements prepared by the IPP for hearings, and reports and proposals by the government departments constructing the bridge. Bridges over the East Branch and West Branch of the DuPage River are also documented in these files. The same types of materials are included in these files, although at least some of these bridges were constructed by the IPP volunteers themselves, so there are fewer reports and hearings involved. The East Branch bridge in particular was replaced repeatedly due to floods and vandalism. Several files pertain to the Taylor Avenue Bridge in Glen Ellyn. Earlier material demonstrates an interest in a bridge, but a near accident in 1997 led to a strong push by volunteers and local residents to raise funds and construct a bridge over Taylor Avenue in Glen Ellyn. These files contain meeting agendas and minutes, fundraising flyers, lists of donors to the project, and correspondence with village and county officials.
