Scope and Contents

This series consists of articles written by the Office of Marketing and Communication / Office of Communication / Office of Institutional Communication for the external North Central College website (https://www.northcentralcollege.edu/) from 2012-2021. Some of these articles were categorized as “Feature News.” The content of the articles includes: student and alumni achievements, faculty success, campus events, and athletic team accomplishments. There are 1,521 articles in total, which are only available electronically. Some articles were written to highlight news within academic programs. These typically have the academic program listed at the top of the article as a header. Many of the articles related to athletics were published on the separate website for North Central athletics, and earlier sports articles were moved to the North Central College athletics website.

Processing Information

The North Central College Archives received some website articles from the Office of Marketing and Communication as .PDFs created with the tool Inoreader. Other website articles were saved as .PDFs by the Archives from the website in 2024, or when they were published. During processing the filename was changed to include the date the article was posted on the website when available. If a date was not available, the date the article was originally saved by the communications team was used. In addition, the file name was shortened for best practices. The Archives saved the articles as .PDF/A’s taking into consideration best view-able and usable formats. Therefore some .PDFs use a portrait layout and others a landscape. The size varies, and the website footer information was not saved. The subject terms were created by the Office of Marketing and Communication / Office of Institutional Communication team. The Archives retained these subject terms when available and feasible. Some photographs, which appeared with articles before 2017 are missing, but the captions remained. The Archives assumed that as updates were made to the website, it was not feasible to keep the older photographs posted.
