NCC: Student handbooks
Scope and Contents
This collection contains Student Handbooks from 1950 to 2004 in hard-copy format and from 2008-2023 in digital format. Student handbooks from 2004-2007 and 2020-2021 are not in this collection. Student Handbooks dating from 1950 to 1986 mainly contain a calendar of scheduled campus events, telephone extensions for general college offices, a directory of local churches, and general information about the College including, traditions, activities and organizations, athletics, points of interest, campus policies, campus maps, and campus government. After 1986, the Student Handbooks contain only information about the standards of conduct and campus rules and policies. In 1993, the format of the Student Handbooks changes to include a brief history of the college, a week-at-a-glance calendar, academic year schedule, campus services and office hours, safety and security information and a dispute resolution program guide. In addition, sports schedules and academic tips for students begin in 1998.
The Student Handbooks also reflect the changes and trends occurring in higher education from 1950 to the present. In 1971, the College’s drug and alcohol policy is added as well as information on freedom of expression. In 1988, the campus AIDS policy is added, and later, the College policy on sexual harassment and computer software sharing as well.
In 2003, the College ceased publishing the Student Handbooks in hard-copy, print format; instead, it is now only available in digital format.
