NCC: Photographs
Scope and Contents
This collection contains photographs on a wide variety of subjects related to the College from 1866 to 2022. Subject headings include: "Academic Programs," "Administration," "Faculty," "Historical," "Presidents," "Sports," and "Student Life," mirroring the College Archives organization scheme. The "Administration" and "Sports" subjects contain the largest number of photos. Researchers should consult the attached container list for a complete listing of subjects covered. While the photographs in this collection largely do not include any date or creator identification, the series does include photographs taken by other agencies, including the Naperville Sun, the White House Publicity Office, and The Chicago Tribune. Based on subjects covered, clothing and hair styles, the bulk of this series dates from 1940-1980, but many folders contain earlier photographs.

Conditions Governing Use
North Central College does not hold copyright on all photographs in this collection. Persons who wish to reproduce these photos need to make their own arrangements to clear copyright restrictions. Researchers may request a photo use form from the archivist for photos for which North Central College does hold copyright.

Physical Description
A large variety of sizes, conditions, and processing techniques are found in this series. Within the folders, there is little organization possible, but generally the photographs are arranged chronologically when possible or by size when appropriate. Dates are included on the folder only when exact or meaningful estimates are possible. Folders without dates indicate either a very large time span (ie., ca. 1900-ca.. 1990) or indeterminable dates. There are three boxes of unidentified photographs in which their connection to the College is undetermined.
Processing Information
The base collection of the College Archives had no inherent order. The Archives created this out of the base collection in 1999. Since this was an entirely unorganized series, the Archives imposed an organization scheme which mirrors the general College Archives organization.
The bulk of the photographs in this collection were apparently either taken by or received by the Public Information Office of North Central College. Photographs not taken by the College were donated by alumni, contracted out to various photographers, or remain unknown.
Small accessions of photographs are added to this series as received with donor information recorded on the reverse side of each photograph by Archives staff.
