1985-1987
Scope and Contents
Congressman Fawell attended many events (important exposure for an elected official) including speaking engagements, receptions, and programs honoring him. He attended events at both the local and national level, running the gamut from local holiday parades and local organization meetings to the 1989 Presidential Inauguration and the 1992 Republican National Convention. The Invitation Files consist of invitations accepted and scheduled by Congressman Fawell. These files include phone messages, letters confirming appointments, notes from congressional staff or organizers regarding changes, supporting information about events and organization, and thank-you letters following events. The files sometime include photographs, usually color snapshots, of Congressman Fawell at the scheduled event, which were not removed in order to preserve the context of the photo. The Invitation Files are divided into two runs of materials, both of which are chronologically arranged. The first run includes files from the Washington, D.C. office regarding federal and Washington, D.C. area events. The second run of materials relate to local Illinois Congressional District 13 events that were received either from the District office or from the Washington, D.C. office, the provenance of which is indicated in the folder title on the container list.
