Appointment Books-Washington, D.C. Office, 1990
Scope and Contents
The secretary of each office, Washington, D.C. and District, maintained a schedule for Congressman Fawell. Two types of schedules were kept: appointment books (bound 8"x10" week-at-a-glance format with handwritten entries) and printed schedules. Through 1992, both offices maintained the appointment books, but beginning in 1993, only the District office kept one. The printed schedules were compiled daily and contained Mr. Fawell's scheduled appointments. Starting in 1988, both offices used a shared computer scheduling system, and maintained a single calendar for Congressman Fawell. The original schedules varied in size, however the files contain 8 1/2" x 11" pages. From 1985-1988, the office used a small 3 1/2" x 5" format card; from 1988 to 1990, the office appeared to create a small format (presumably for the Congressman's use) and a larger, more descriptive version printed from the computer scheduling system. The Washington, D.C. office schedules from 1988-1993 include whip and committee weekly and/or monthly schedules as well as a minimal amount of electronic mail regarding scheduling. Two sets of schedule files were received for the 1988-1990 printed schedules. The larger, more descriptive format was retained, while the smaller format was maintained only when it differed from the large format or if it was the only version available. The files are labeled according to which congressional office maintained the schedules. If the Washington, D.C. or the District office is the only file for the year, either one was missing or the second office was an absolute duplicate.
